HOW TO GET YOUR DZ LICENSE?

DZ LICENSE DEFINITION:Ontario Class DZ License allows you to drive vehicles with Air Brakes such as Straight Trucks, Dump Trucks, Cement Trucks, Garbage/Recycling Trucks, and Rescue & Fire Trucks.  A Class DZ License is required to operate a vehicle over 11, 000 Kg gross weight or registered gross weight with a towed trailer not over 4,600 Kg.  If your towed trailer exceeds 4,600 Kg, you will need to upgrade to Class AZ License.

Pine Valley Driving Academy, truck driving school, offers this driver training non-vocational DZ license in Fire Truck in Toronto, which provides students with the basic theoretical knowledge and practical training to operate a DZ truck.  Upon successful completion of the road test at the DriveTest Centre the student will receive Ontario DZ License.

This defensive driving course contains safe driving knowledge that all DZ Commercial Driver should know.  Air-Brakes Endorsement (Z) is also required in this program.The course covers the following;

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 18 years of age
  
• Must have a valid Ontario Class "G" Licence
  
• Must have a completed MTO Medical Report Form from a doctor.                                Please print the attached pdf form double-sided only, otherwise it will not be accepted by DriveTest Centre. Click on "Medical Report Form.pdf"
  
• Must pass Class "D" License and/ or "Z" Endorsement knowledge tests. There are two ways to get your DZ license in Ontario
  
• If you pass Class D written test only at DriveTest, you must attend 2 days Air Brakes Course for Z endorsement. Road Test will be comprised on inspection, driving and backup. (all options below provides Air Brakes Course).  
  
• If you pass both DZ written test (better option) all training is one to one and more driver training is provided. Road Test will be comprised of Air Brakes Practical, Inspection, driving and backup.

We can provide you with the materials you require to pass both D and Z written tests.  Please remember to take your completed Medical Form when you write the knowledge tests.  Knowledge or Written tests can be taken at any DriveTest Centre location and no appointments are necessary. 

         Written tests are comprised of 50 multiple choice questions for Class D or 70 multiple choice questions for DZ: 

                     Class D Rules 30 questions

                     Class D Road Signs 20 questions

                    Class Z Air Brake 20 questions.                                                                                                                                  

DZ COURSE FEES & TRAINING:

OPTION 1: CLASS DZ PACKAGE  Total cost is $1,100. HST Exempt, no taxes

Breakdown of Package:

• 3.5 Hours for Driving, Inspection & Review
  
• 2.5 Hours Air Brakes (Z) Practical or Air Brakes (Z) Course
  
• Automatic Transmission Truck supplied for the MTO road test
  

​This package will be completed in 2 sessions. Training provided on automatic transmission truck only. Suitable for students who have highway driving experience.

OPTION II: CLASS DZ PACKAGE  Total cost is $1,300 HST Exempt, no taxes
Breakdown of Package:

• 5.5 Hours for Driving, Inspection & Review
• 2.5 Hours Air Brakes (Z) Practical or Air Brakes (Z) Course
• Automatic Transmission Truck supplied for the MTO road test 

​This package will be completed in 2 or 3 sessions.  Training provided on automatic transmission truck only.

OPTION III: CLASS DZ PACKAGE  Total cost is $1,550 HST Exempt, no taxes
Breakdown of Package:

• 7.5 Hours for Driving, Inspection & Review
• 2.5 Hours Air Brakes (Z) Practical or Air Brakes (Z) Course
• Automatic Transmission Truck supplied for the MTO road test 

​This package will be completed in 3 or 4 sessions  Training provided on automatic  transmission truck only. ​

​OPTION IV: CLASS DZ PACKAGETotal cost is $1,800 HST Exempt, no taxes
Breakdown of Package:

• 9.5 Hours for Driving, Inspection & Review
• 2.5 Hours Air Brakes (Z) Practical or Air Brakes (Z) Course
• Automatic Transmission Truck supplied for the MTO road test. 

​This package will be completed in 4 sessions. Training provided on automatic transmission trucks only. 

​OPTION V: CLASS DZ PACKAGE Total cost is $1,980 HST Exempt, no taxes
Breakdown of Package:

• 11.5 Hours for Driving, Inspection & Review
• 2.5 Hours Air Brakes (Z) Practical or Air Brakes (Z) Course

Automatic Transmission Truck supplied for the MTO road test. 
This package will be completed in 4 or 5 sessions. Training provided on automatic transmission trucks only.
